i was driving my 96 gsx today and i was going about 80 and all of a sudden i hear like kinda a boom sound and i looked behind me, tons of smoke and i came to a stop and shutted it of. There is oil on the bottom of the engien and it came out the tail pipe, also the dipstick had came out and oil was all in the bay of the car and it cought on fire. but i put it out right away so it did not damange anything that i can see. When i stoped there was like flames coming out the back tail pipe were the oil was. Any help would be appriciated on what happend. (do you think i will need a rebuild or anything??)

Clean it up and take a closer look. If your dipstick blows out (not uncommon) it can spray oil *everywhere.* Get a replacement one from mitsu ($10 or so?), clean everything up, and then look for leaks elsewhere. Around the turbo especially. Also, just in case this isn't obvious: CHECK YOUR OIL! Make sure you have plenty left. If it's leaking/spraying everywhere, you may be low, which will have you crying pretty quick. Check it often (daily).

recommend doing a compression test to tell the condition of your pistions/valves.

popping dipstick means too much pressure in your engine from a blown ring. or you can replace your dipstick cuz that rubber can be worn. it can be simple as that.

also you can follow where that leak is coming from too.

gluck.

I'd worry about fixing it first, before worryin about the track..you sure a seal on the turbo didn't blow..tailpipe oil sorta points me in that direction. Also, I made a bracket for my dipstick, that keeps it in..just a basic clamp with a flat piece of metal and a slot in it..worked for me.

Or just take a pliars and squeeze the end of the dip stick tube a little just so it puts more pressure on the dip stick seal. Worked for me.
