View Full Version : Man Shot for saying he had a bomb on Miami
http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/12/08/airplane.gunshot/index.html
What's your views on this? Did they take correct action and thus justified lethal force when they opened fire when he reached in his back?
My views are mixed, but if it was the other way around and there was explosives in the bag these 2 guys would be heros, now because the force was taken they are under investigation and on paid leave.
I think the action was pretty much on the ball as with recent events stemming back to 9/11 you have to play it safer these days.
Woot, good kill.
But seriously, I dont see how they could have done anything different without seriously endangering everyone else on board.

As I said on TCS, chalk another one up for Darwin. Bomb or no bomb, guy had mental issues or not, just one less possible problem in this world for us to worry about.

You gotta do what you gotta do. Take out one person who could easily been a serious danger, or possibly lose everyone else on that plane. Looks cut and dry to me, props to the air marshal.

I would have shot him too. I don't care if he was bi-polar or not, if you're not mentally stable enough to realize that shit will hit the fan when you talk about bombing an air plane, you shouldn't be on the plane in the first place. His wife admitted to that her husband was off of his medication and she convinced him to get on the place. Without knowing why her husband was off his medication, I feel it is her fault if anyone is to blame for what happened.
Witnesses said his wife, Anne, frantically tried to explain he was bipolar, a mental illness also known as manic-depression, and was off his medication.

wtf was he on the plane? hmm off his medication? whay wasnt he on his meds? whats the deal? did the wife have a big insurance policy on his ass? and if that didnt fly is she planning on going after the air marshall for wrongful death? there is something majorly wrong with this picture!!!

It was a good call.
What if the situation were reversed. Let's say he did have a bomb, but they decided not to do anything because some lady, who is supposedly his wife, said he was sick in the head. BOOM!!! Would people have the same reaction? Probably not. But chances are, the above scenario, or something close to it, is what was going through the marshalls mind, when they made the decision.
They made the right call. It's very unfortunate, and a bad situation overall, but they made the right choice.

Some guy runs down the jetway screaming I have a bomb? I would have shot him too no questions asked.
To me it sounds like a successful suicide attempt.

CNN is gay and always has been. They did their job, the wife didn't (making sure he takes his pills). Bi-polar is a bullshit excuse; you don't do that on a plane period.
