For anyone who reads this. I'm getting the specs for machining the pistons to work with aftermarket 2g rods. Car has around 90k miles. During last winter, i extensively checked for any sign of crankwalk. I could not get any dial indicator movement whatsoever. I'm not saying it still can't happen. "knock on wood" I'm just saying that it hasn't. For $300 Eagle rods, I think it would be worth the extra insurance.

Leave the stockers and save up for a 6bolt.

Don't fix it if it isn't broken. Taking apart the motor opens it up for problems/mistakes on disassembly/assembly and it's not worth the risk to just do the rods (especially on a 7bolt). If the motor is working keep using it and build a second one (6 bolt).

That's probably my plan. I'll just wait and while i wait, hope nothing ever happens. Can anyone give me some input on this. Let's say i wanted to build up a 6 bolt. I'm gonna use my 2g head because it's ported and also because i have a 2g Magnus intake. Let's assume i had a decent 6 bolt bottom end from the fly wheel to the timing belt cover. I would use the stock 6 bolt big rods but get 2g 8.5:1 pistons.
What would this project cost roughly so i kinda know what to prepare for?
- 2g pistons .020 over
- .020 over bore job
- all new crank bearings, shortblock gaskets, etc.
- bal shaft eliminator kit
- flywheel resurfacing
- machine shop assembly labor time (for the short block)
I just want a ball park figure on what it would cost to rebuild the bottom end and then use my 2g head. If i got a shortblock for roughly $500(or whatever), would the above rebuild be another $500 for a total of $1,000(entire project) or am i too low with my estimate?

Hey tim :)
I made 400/368 with the scm61 and cams. Stock manifold and TB. Just be conservative with timing and you should be fine. I am on a mision to take out Brian on the stock motor. I wouldn't mind doing more, but my clutch won't like it. OEM clutch baby. Your guess is as good as mine to why it still lives.

Hey Nate-
Welcome to the board. You'll like it here much better than talk & tunerz. Full of a pretty knowledged DSMers. Alot of HP seems to come out of the Minn. group.
