1993 Talon TSI AWD
(no known shifter mods, but shorter shifter knob)

I went on VFAQ and got the instructions on how to adjust my shifter because it pops out of third and fifth gear (mostly 3rd). I had everything taken apart, cotter pins out and ready to adjust. Then I read the part where it says "crack the jamnuts loose" I can only find one of the jamnuts. And its on the cable that I dont need to have adjusted. The cable that moves up and down doesnt have one on it. It's just a plain cable with no way to adjust it. Anyone know what's wrong. If the previous owner might have switched them out or if thats just how the '93 talons are. Is there any other way I could adjust the up/down movement on the shifter arm, because it's not centered or even close to centered. Need any other info, just let me know.

Some of the 1G cables only had the one adjustable cable. I can't remember what I've done to adjust that. I think I bent the mounting bracket for it. Also, you might just need to replace the cables. I replaced mine 5-6 years ago, they were to far stretched to adjust. Also, make sure the rubber damper on the bottom of the shift lever is not binding or getting in the way.

Are you talking about that triangular piece that sticks out from the bottom of the lever itself and it stops when it hits the front and rear stoppers? The stopper on my shift lever is metal and makes a metal on metal pound when I shift into 3rd and 5th. What year cables could I just buy to switch out the whole cable assembly?

Yeah, that triangle. It should have a rubber bumper on it to keep from having metal to metal contact.

You get correct cables for your year car. I wouldn't bother with used either, do it right and get some new ones from Brookdale. I think mine were about $105, well worth the money.

Sounds good to me. I'll put that on my PartsToGet list. The list just keeps increasing, yet I'm not getting any quicker...haha. Maintenance. What a pain. Hmm..that triangle stopper...is it a rubber cover that goes over the metal. I dont know what it is, since I've never seen one or have one in my own car. The noise I get from the metal-to-metal contact gets annoying at first, but now I'm used to it...
