Could someone tell me what the line is coming out of the top of Shep's valve cover in this picture?

There's no way to take out anywhere near that much without bolting an AWD drivetrain to a tube frame with lightweight body skins. I think even Rau's old car without driver was around 2200, and it was a tin can.
Shep's got the magic formula, keep making more horsepower.
I never said he could dump that weight, I was just stating that he is way overweight in his glass. I would say he could probably dump a few hundred pounds though by taking out all the glass and maybe a carbon fiber rear hatch. By saying he 600 pounds overweight is actually a compliment considering how fast he is going even with that disadvantage in his class. But I also agree that his car would not look as good if he went the full distance with making the car lighter. But in his class there are no points for how stock appearing the car is. Its about tin cans with lots of HP that go from point A to point B the fastest.
I would be curious to know how much Gardellas car weighs?

It goes to the Flux capacitor, adds 600 gigawatts of power to his cam shafts.

Rau's old AWD car was either 2500 or 2600 with driver. Back then in the IDRC Quick 16 class that Rau ran in, they had a huge weight penalty on the AWD cars versus the FWDs. I don't remember if the min weight allowed for him was 2500 or 2600, but whatever it was, Rau was right at it. They pretty much forced Rau to goto an outlaw RWD car and Glazer quit racing his AWD for a few years because of the unfair rules against AWDs also. The playing field nowdays in the NOPI version of the same class that Shep runs in, is quite even without any restrictions on the AWD cars.

I would think he gave up driving the car on the street when he went hardblock and methanol. I would also think that Garys car weighs in at class min. to be as fast as possible with the power he makes.

Yeah, that's the story. I'm sure it's bored over. Prolly long-rodded too. But yeah it's a 2.0L
