I'm thinking about doing this in the near future.

For those that don't know, Geocaching is a relatively new sport. Basically you use a GPS unit to track down items that are hidden. If you goto this site (http://www.geocaching.com/) , you will get more info. People take a tupperware bowl or an old ammo case or something else and put different items in there and then find a place to put it. Then they post on that site what the coordinates are for you to go looking. When you find the item you can either just sign the logbook inside or you can take an item out and leave an item of yours in there. There's things like Yo-Yo's, keychains, etc. inside them. I did a search for 25 miles around Burnsville and it came back with over 900 caches. There is even one about 3 blocks away from me! It looks like fun.

Anybody up for doing this during the upcoming summer? Maybe we could have a contest to see how many caches each person can find in a months time frame or something.

I think it would be a fun time. I ran a search for my hometown zip code and the first cache that popped up is like 1 mile from my house. I know exactly the area that it is describing, crazy shit! :bounce:

I searched for my hometown and found 2 locally and I'm pretty sure I know where they are through the clues. We should do this some weekend in the summer, just driving around and looking for caches.

Sounds like fun. We should do it in the spring. Maybe a new gathering?

Can you describe what you are talking about in terms I'll understand? :D

you've got this junk you dont want, so you put it in a box and hide it, then you go online and tell people where you hid it, and they take your junk for you. sounds like a good solution to me.

Except it's all sofisticated with GPS units. I was thinking of either a meet or kind of a "gimmick rally" style cache meet. I could go out and find a whole bunch of caches and then right up questions about them that have to be answered in order to solve a puzzle or something (same style as the Tombstone Trail).

Well we found our first geocache today!!!!!! It was in the park that's behind our house. It took us about 15 minutes to find it. It was almost completely covered when we found it. Only a corner of it was peeking out. We're thinking about going out again next weekend sometime. Probably sunday.
