You need to give more details, is it a five speed? What year car? Please update this with more information and make it easier to understand or I will delete it. Tick tick tick tick............

For a tranny rebuild - someone mentioned Shep does a good job. I think it was Jet. I vaguely remember it was 895$ for a full rebuild with double synchros in second and cost of gears extra.

I can help with this sorta.

its a 91 AWD 5 speed, he wants something cheap. I told him to get ahold of shindley. he wants a basic rebuild for cheap in a short amount of time. not something for shep to do.

What exactly went out? Does it not go into a gear? Does it pop out of a gear? Did the slave or master go out? Details.

his 2nd gear has been grinding really bad.

he said he heard a pop pop pop and saw shit coming out like metal shit behind his car.

Based on the last post before me it sounds like you sheared off several teeth on either the intermediate or output shaft, possibly both. I've went through 4 FWD trannies. Sounds like yours is AWD but it can happen to those too.

When the car is in neutral, is it very hard to move? On one of my breaks, in neutral i could push the car backward but not forward whatsoever.

If you saw metal stuff flying, then your case is cracked. Sounds like you need a new tranny. If you're mechanically inclined, changing a tranny isn't the worst job(although i hate it everytime).
