Was awesome!!!!!!!!! Gorgeous weather, lots of workers, fast cars, hardly any dust, cool teams, and of course Stig Blomqvist!!!
We had a bunch of banner workers to help me keep from pulling the rest of my hair out. The weather was great. It rained hard on thursday nite, then sunny and breezy the rest of the weekend.
We had 43 or 44 cars start and mid-30-ish finish.
I overheated my car a little on the final stage while advancing the course because of a stuck thermostat, but got that fixed after the car cooled down. Otherwise, she did great. We ended up getting behind schedule advancing the course on saturday so tried to make up some time. We were reaching over 70mph on some of the sections! I know that doesn't sound fast, but do it on a narrow, twisty forest road and see how 70mph feels. We had some photographers that "caught us in the act" on a few stages. I got one slide around a corner while waving to the cameraman out the window (we weren't going blazing fast, but it was fun). TECHNICALLY, I am supposed to be going a little slower, but I had to make up time.
The funniest thing that happened all weekend was the little civic that couldn't. We were 1.25 miles into stage 13 and came across a 90-91 Honda civic HB partially blocking the road. There was noone around it. We thought maybe they blew their engine or something. But a closer inspection revealed the truth. They had crested a hill too fast and hit a large pothole just a few feet after the crest. It nearly ripped the entire front suspesion out from the left side! The driver's front tire was actually facing backwards! So we called one of the medical guys to come up and strap onto it. He pulled it off onto a sideroad and out of the way so we could run the stage. I don't think there was a straight piece of sheetmetal on the entire car including the roof!!! There was also an old playboy sitting in the backseat. This thing was run thru hell and back. We don't know who owned it or if they ever got it out of there, but it was hilarious.
Just thought I'd share my fun from this weekend. I didn't see too many people up there from any of the boards. Was kinda disappointed at that, but oh well. Now I'm gearing up for Lake Superior Rally in Michigan on October 21st and 22nd. If anyone is thinking about going up there, let me know.
