A TDI Jetta sounds like a really nice thought. Im looking for new cars as well but will probably pick it up next spring.

The problem with a nice MPG car is that its slow. And I cant decide between slow/reliable/cost effective, or fast/reliable/bad MPG/style.... Too hard of a decision. BUT with gas prices nearing $3 soon enough, the first choice sounds better....

test drive a TDI, and see how you like the ride..

it was super harsh and unfomfortable for my taste... other than that i really liked it, i might consider looking at the never models now and not the full economy model..

The jetta I test drove handled like it was drunk.
I've driven better handling lifted trucks with blown suspension!

I don't think Allan is looking for a 1988 Jetta though. Were you looking for the Jetta and got the Tempo instead? :D

I drove a 2002 jetta and it handled really nice. It was solid and overall a good car. The 2.0 is gutless though, the 1.8t is much better.

I really like Mazda Proteges and am seriously considering getting one for DD use instead of my Contour. Their only downfalls are significantly lower MPG than a Civic and poor/expensive tire availibility. They are much "sportier" and more fun than a Civic for sure, and they seem to hold up really well.
