Well, i have blown something...

the other day it got a bit hot since fans didn't run on turbo timer.

drove fine 3 days.

today i pull into my parking spot at work, walk out .. smoking out the exhaust...

cool: i got a masquito killer system now..
not cool: somethigs busted..

smoke is white/blueish smoke. i didn't bother smelling at this time or checking it i just turned the engine right off and came to work.

car idles and runs just fine, no ses lights or anything, plenty of water in the cooling system.

possible things
1. warped head.. blown headgasket.
2. turbo seals went bad burning oil throu that.

I have arp headstuds and cams now on it, thats it so no big loss if engine needs rebuild as long as oil is still good in there and it didn't mix with the antifreeze..

i just checked overflow for oil residue and checked under the oil cap and both seamed clean and normal.

Pistons/rings are another possibility. Hopefully it isn't major. I would doubt the turbo seals because of heat because that should run hotter under full boost.

Honestly, i'm at the point where i just don't give a shit about it ;p...
I accepted the failure of the engine once i started moding it. It lasted full 3 years of me enjoying and it has served good ;p

I will get it towed tomorow to my house and check compression and do a coolant system preasure test.

i'll probably leave it on the trailer and tow it up to LSE to do the leakdown test if the other 2 don't give me much information.

well the conclusion.. UNKNOWN what the smoke out of the exhaust was..

i made my own leak down tester
i see about 3% to 5 % loss on all 4 cylinders within 1% of all depending on hot/cold engine.
no bubles in the colant, and no hissing noise out of the oil cap or dipstick, a bit of hissing noise out of the ehxaust tho, didn't bother checking intake manifold for noise..

compression is still at 168 to 172 on all 4cyl

E you were probly just being a normal paronoid DSMer. every time I smell something weired or see a puf of smoke I think I blew the motor. just get out there and beat on it till it does blow.

How did you make your own leakdown tester I wouldnt mind haveing one but I'm to cheap to buy one.

You can modify a compression tester to work. The ones that have the quick release fittings on them that can connect to an air compresser are the ones that work. You just remove the core out of the part that threads into the spark plug hole and take the guage part off. All you would need to get is a valve stem remover for a tire valve to do it. Then you just plug it into the tester to let air in and listen for the leaks.
