View Full Version : It Gets Hot
lol...loging with dsmlink i seen temps on normal operating conditions and on hot days reach 216 easily. even with fans..
I did some testing with fans on and fans off
fans only help if you are in stop and go trafic, and below 30 mph.
anything above 40 the air is flowing faster than what fans can produce.

You can't compare 2G logger temps to 1G temps, the sensors are in different spots. 2Gs always read much hotter.
My 1g got really hot going to the SO 2 years ago. I think it varies from car to car and also the FMIC can make a big difference. I agree with Nate, just put another fan on it.

My 1G gets really hot on 90+ days but if its nice out it stays at 197 or so. Some cars are just different. Cher I wouldnt worry in your situation because your ca is not even getting hot. The stock thermostat operating range is starting to open at 190 and fullly open at 206.... so using a 180 will only open it sooner but top off is still going to be the same.
Its all in the fans you have, mine are pretty small so they dont like to keep it cool enough on hot days at stop lights.

My car has always run within a few degrees of the thermostat. As long as there are no blocked passages and your cooling system is good, it should always stay at the temp under normal conditions.
Have you checked your radiator for internal corrosion or corroded fins? My old stocker was missing the bottom 3" of cooling fins when I pulled it out, it wasn't readily visible in the car.

Everything is new in my system... radiator, 2- 9" fans, 30% coolant w/watterwetter distilled combo....
Even with a FMIC you guys say your cooling just fine in 90+ weather? My car is fine if its not humid and super hot out, but I have noticed on the freeway it stays about 5 degrees cooler so my fans arent very strong.
I have no headgasket symptoms... oil is clean, coolant is clean and not disappearing....

as I say..get an aftermarket gauge for it bud. We can pull the egt gauge, and the oil pressure gauge, and I'll throw it in for ya, if you'd like..not too hard. You know I am good with gauges, since I got em all..:-/

who machined the head? Not all people were put on this planet to be machinists.
Ive never had a FMIC so I dont know from experience, but cant having that directly in front of your radiator cause problems with air getting past?
Change your temperature sensor?

I'll get a gauge for it once I get other things figured out financially and with the car in general I s'pose.

A very reputable machinist did the head. He's done a bunch of Mitsu heads before so the head being flat is the last thing I'd doubt.
As far as the FMIC being in the way... meh. It gets enough air through and my other FMIC was bigger than this baby one and never had problems.
Yes, I've changed the temp sender sensor out for a new one. The old one got all whacked out and would peg itself to HOT all the time.
I guess I'll put another fan on it and flush it. Then if that doesn't work, I'll bepulling the engine.
