Ok, first off, GVR4#597 is working, which is awesome, so my brother has been driving it like an formula car, and 5 minutes ago he called me, he launched, something snapped, loudly....., and he told me that now "accelation is really sluggish"

so i told him "stop driving you idiot"

I can only assume that 3-bolt rear end has broken...

So, now what can i do? he cant leave the car where it is, and i dont want to have to tow it.

Is there a way to disconnect the transfer case and turn it into a FWD car? I have heard of dsms owners doing this....somehow......so please, anyone, how is this done

(we have pulled the engine and tranny in the past, so something small like this should be easy, if we can figure out how to do it)

Thanks

Not sure what your setup is, but I would check all your intercooler piping. Sounds like he popped one off. Always scary the first time.

lol, we have been popping intercooler piping since we got the darn thing, and yes, the first couple times were scary. Thanks JET for helping us out with the couplers.

No, the problem is in the DRIVELINE it makes a BAD GRINDING SOUND, we are quite sure that it is the 3 bolt, because the tranny shifts into gear and the car moves forward somewhat normally......minus what we think is a 3 bolt

I have an axle for you. Non LSD 3 bolt from my GVR4. $30. $50 for both, for when you break one again.

Hmmm... I wouldn't think an axle would make a grinding sound. I would start thinking center diff, rear end or t-case. My first thought would be the t-case or center diff.

I did that exact thing, what happened was the axle snapped, but stayed in the rear end all crooked, and then when i started driving it again, it got stuck up in the rear end, and locked up again, snapped the axle again, then it was hanging down, took the bad axle off, put it in the trunk and drove it carefully home....
-My suggestion, remove the broken axle, if it is the rear end... and see if it stops clunking, if it does, your probly okay to drive it, for a lil wase at least...

the axles seem fine, my brother, joe (speedholes) jacked the rear right side of the car up, he could turn one wheel, and it ground.....the drive shaft going to the 3 bolt is not turning......

so its my best guess that the 3 bolt is broken.....but ill get back to you guys when i know more, thanks alot

Did you guys ever check the oil in it? Those gears are really strong and shouldn't be the first thing to break.

Thanks, but no thanks, we have an additional 3-bolt setup, and we are probably going to install it, the only griping on my brothers end was that he didnt want to go through all that work just to have to replace it with a 4 bolt down the road when the 3 bolt brakes again.

I think im gonna get a huge loan and get an Audi A4 Quattro 2.0 Turbo
