There normally is one stud on a stock 14b, and three bolts that go through the top of the manifold. Why is there a stud, and not just four bolts? I am wondering because my car has four bolts holding the turbo, and one bolt (where the stud would normally be) keeps coming loose.
It's just that way from mitsu. The only reason I can think of is that it provides a more stable hold to it with a stud in there, but it also makes it more of a pita when taking a turbo off. If the bolt you have in there is always backing out you may have some damaged threads. I'd get a new bolts and maybe chase the threads before installing it with a tap or something to clean it out.

The stud does make it a little easier to re-install the turbo I just have the four bolts and it's a pain in the ass trying to hold the turbo up and install the bolt at the same time, I guess a friend would help just as much.

Haha, yeah I just wanted to know if there was any other purpose other than to ease installation. Thanks!
