What do you guys think of the Sl (non turbo) 3000gt/stealth? Mostly looking for maintenance/reliability info. It doesnt really matter to me whether you think it is pretty or not. I know they are a huge pain to work on because of the stuffed full engine compartment. In particular I am looking at a 94 3000gt sl.
Yes, I know a vr4 would be way sweeter but I don't have any chance of ever affording one.

Uhh, the tt's are nearly the same price as the sl's as long as you shop around. The sl's are still pretty damm quick, and a 5spd would woop 1/2 the cars on this board sadly. (from a roll). They respond well to mods, the motors are strong, and in general I like the cars.
That being said, this is a DSM board, the little cousin to the 3kgt, so the flame suit is now on.
I put 33k HARD miles on my tt before pulling it out of service (ran great) only had issues with the cronic problems (output shaft rusting) and had to fix a wheel bearing, thats it.
My old gf's sl ran great, had a throttle cable issue, until a drunk driver took it out the game after she had it for about 15k miles.

I had to get a heavy duty trailer in order to be able to tow stealths/3kgt's ...

They are heavier than DSM's, but they are also a class/size above DSM's. They are Grand Touring cars, I can't imagine they are much heavier than a Supra TT (*edit* about 580 lbs heavier). 3/S's are cool cars, the styling is great and they respond very well to mods (both NT and TT). I would think the NT would make a fairly comfortable and reliable DD but of course no where near as fun as a TT.

Thanks for all the relplies already. The reason for the NA is I found one for dirt cheap. It would be a minimally modded DD. Already has intake and exhaust I doubt I would ever do more to it than that.

They are a bit heavy, 3803 for my car (93 rt/tt) The tt's can range from 3671-3803 lbs. The NA's are around 3076-3373 pending year, model, and options.
mkiv's are around 3200-3300 lbs for the N/A
the tt's are 3400-3500lbs, again pending year and options.
1g awds are around 3200lbs?
2g awds are around 3400lbs?
and you subtract 100-200lbs for fwd..
(to lazy to look up exact dsm weight)

Yup, really heavy ;).

I guess I better chime in.....

The 3/S is a great car. I'm probably one of the few people here who have driven every flavor of 3/Ses and DSMs.

If you are getting a killer deal on a non-turbo 3/S and you are going to use it as a daily driver, then go for it. If you have any kind of power bug, just find a twin turbo model now and save yourself the time.

And Josh is right, with simple mods a monkey can do, a 3/S TT can do high 12s in the 1/4 mile. And that will spank most of the DSMs on the board. Plus they are still super reliable at that power level.

Are they heavy, sure they are. But that is what more horsepower is for. ;)

have fun,
Curt
