the shop that has my car right now said my ecm has gone bad and thats whats causing the idle to act up. they also want $300+ to fix it. is there any way i can get out of this with SOME money left.
Yes, buy a used one. I just did a search on car-parts.com for the part and there are several junk yards in the cities that have them ffor anywhere from $55 - $150.00
That was for the NT with a 5spd. The search would be diff if you have an AT, but prices should be similar.
It seems pretty unlikely to me that your ECU went bad. What shop is it at?

its at protech (closest thing to my house). i talked to the guy on the phone and he told me it was the ecm that was throwing off the throttle and making it run rich. i asked him a few different times the exact name of the part and he kept giving me explinations on what was happening to it instead.
I think they are full of shit, take it somewhere that knows a DSM better. You could try borrowing an ECU from someone and trying it before you spend more money too.

I could probly get you an ECU for pretty cheap, 50 bucks probly, even a EPROM just let me know if it's actually the ecu, does sound fishy though, only probs with hte ecu usually is the caps and that would cause more than just a rich idle...
