I have my head apart and i was just doing some fore-reading on reassembly. My question is regarding the lash adjusters. I understand the cleaning part the manual states but reassembly it says to fill them with diesel fuel and not to let any of it spill out.

Now the vfaq says to fill them with motor oil, then turn upside down and depress the spring inside with a paper clip so the oil runs out and just leaves a small film of oil inside.

The vfaq says you never want these to be filled with oil because it can bend a valve.

So the factory manual says to have it full of diesel fuel and the vfaq says nothing inside of it. What do i do?

Thanks.

I don’t think it matters, the last time I put in lifters(Lash adjusters)
I keep the old ones in a bucket of new oil than installed them dripping oil. but putting them in Close to empty wouldn’t be bad either just noisy and safe.

Yeah, it said if you put them in dry it will clack for about 10 minutes and then go to a normal status.

I have usually just cleaned the outside with a rag. Using a paperclip or something similar, bleed the lifters down, then dip then into fresh oil before installing. Reason I bleed them? It's not that they bend valves (it may be possible), but if the lifters are pumped up, they will hold the valves slightly open. Enough to cause hard start or no start until they bleed down. I have run into one that we started the car but it had a miss. Once it warmed up, we rev'd it to close to redline and the miss went away. Apparently some lifters were holding some valves open on 1 cylinder.
