View Full Version : 1G MAF vs 2G MAF...should I convert?

Hey all,
I was curious to know if the 2G MAF put on a 1G setup would be better dollar for dollar? I see many either converting to 3bar MAP or running a 3" GM MAFT and converter box...but I do not have deep pockets this month and would like to make the car breath better as the Supra TT intercooler is keeping this much cooler on charge temps.
Thanks

If you want one I just bought a MAFT and will be selling my 2G Maf with either and aftermarket intake or just the stock stuff. Let me know if you want it.

Yeah, the 2g MAF is a good way to go. How big of injectors do you have? It makes the car run leaner. You will also need fuel control if you don't have something yet.

Jet-
Stock injectors and fueling system. I have full intensions of putting in a Walbro 255L/hr pump (or maybe what you guys suggest??)...fuel relay and wiring upgrade...and FPR.
What sized injectors should I be looking for?

550s, if you dont have a bigger turbo than say a 16G. I have a set of ND 550s for sale if you want those sometime, Im in no rush...
A 255 should will be fine but you will need a FPR. If you dont plan on upgrading turbos to anything past a 16G then you might want a 190 pump and you wont need a FPR.

It has a Big 16G with an EVO III Exhaust manifold, Supra TT SMIC, 2.5" Full exhaust, and a few other minor things not important to performance really.
Next month will actually bring me a large payday from my company. I am sure my wife would like to put a cap on what I spend...but not her money!! ;)
Ok to get things straight with a 2G MAF upgrade I need:
1). 2G MAF and intake pipe from blageo23 if he agrees on price.
2). Fuel Pump (I would prefer a larger pump for future upgrades).
3). FPR...any suggestions of manufacturer's?
4). Injectors (minimum 550cc) again any suggestion on size or manufacturer
Did I forget anything? I am a bang for your buck kind of person...but I know it to be very true when it is said, "you get what you pay for!" So any suggestions from the veterans on manufacturers or needed components would be greatly appreciated!!

Well if you go any bigger than 550s you will need some way to control the fuel... so you will either need something like a AFC or DSMlink to control the flow. You should have something anyway if you are upgrading your fuel system or going above stock boost settings.
Pretty much any injector brand will work. RC are lower grade and ND are higher grade- just an example.
If you are not upgrading for a while just get 550s, if you plan on going 50 trim or higher get atleast 660s.
FPR- SX is good... pretty much all of them out there for DSM's are pretty good, just make sure its adjustable and get a guage.
I would just rewire your stock pump, get some 650-720cc injectors, and an AFC. The 2g MAF basically cancels out 550's, so it won't help with fuel cut much. That is why you want to go bigger. I wouldn't bother with a FPR, get the 190 pump if you want to upgrade, or you can put a 3/s pump (used=cheap) in for just a 16g.

I personally prefer the Blaha-style 1G MAS over a 2G MAS since 1) its cheaper 2) it flows slightly more than a 2G MAS, and 3) you can retain all your current hardware. If you don't know how to make one, PM me for some info...I've made many.

Get injectors as close to what you actually need, unless your are going to mod the ECU internally. Otherwise you could run into knock problems from the ECU seeing to low of airflow and wanting to run way too much timing. This usually isn't a problem at high boost levels, but at 15-20psi people often have problems.
