BOV questions..

Ok. I used the search function, but I fould no results, pertaining to what I wish to know. I wanna know what makes one person chose one bov over the next? It seems to me that they all do the same job, so why choose brand A over brand B? I also was curious as to how the hks ssqv works, because I think I heard the flapper design is different then other bov's. What makes it such a popular brand bov? Anyone here use the Greddy type S?

Sound, price, and functionality. I run the Paul Walker special(aka Greddy Type S). I like the not so screaming sound that it makes, but it is still loud enough to scare off the occasional ricer. It have pushed it up to about 35psi on accident and it has held just find. Plus when I needed to I could recirculate, there are some BOV's you can't recirc(ie Tial). You need to get one that will match your setup and your goals. Most of the high boost and power applications use a Tial as it is very stong and also pretty quiet. I am not planning on pushing an assload of power, so I didn't think I would need a Tial. The only thing I wish I would have known before was that the Type S came in grey, instead of the gay purple I have now.

Also keep in mind that a properly crushed 1G BOV will hold about 25 psi, I have seen that you can even mod them to hold just as much boost as a Tial.

Well, I kinda think the deep purple looks sorta cool, but that's just me..and, I am not gay..it's just a color. Anyway, the MAFT will be moved more towards the IM, making it more accurate, but will this mean that I can vent, and it be safe?

I loved my type S while I used it, now I have a purple Tial on order. I love that color.

As long as the BOV if before the MAFT, you can vent it. Check out the pic's of the 2G in my member offered services thread. He has a MAFT in the UICP and the BOV vented just before it (about 10" before). It works great. There is a thread we did not long ago talking about the different BOV's. I will try to find it.

The HKS SSQV is a "Pull Type" Blow off valve that its great for automatics because it stays fully closed at idle so you can (but still not recommended) vent to atmos with out it killing on you.
Straight off of the HKS site:
The HKS Super Sequential Blowoff Valve (SSQV) is a dual stage pull type relief valve. Unlike other blow off valves that are push type, the SSQV will not leak under high boost conditions nor under vacuum at idle. Being of a pull type valve structure, the SSQV can not physically leak under any level of boost because boost pressure also keeps the valve closed against its seat. The SSQV is actuated by pressure alterations only, not by the rate of pressure or vacuum in the line, which ensures a quick valve response and complete closure during idle. On typical blow-off valve designs, a large valve is utilized in order to accommodate high boost / high horsepower applications. However, these large valves tend to react slowly and require high activation pressure to open, therefore are not able to activate and prevent compressor surge at light-load conditions. On the other hand, smaller, fast reacting valves do not discharge the airflow capacity required for high horsepower applications and tend to creep open and leak as the boost pressure overpowers the spring on these push type valves. For maximum performance, the HKS SSQV incorporates both a small primary valve for ultra quick activation, along with a larger secondary valve for additional discharge capacity. The SSQV is engineered to initially open the small primary valve at light throttle and load conditions, then sequentially opens the secondary valve for additional relief capacity under high boost and load conditions. The SSQV is constructed of polished billet aluminum, which ensures long-term durability and visual appeal. The mounting base utilizes a circular mounting flange that provides exception flow and complete secure mounting via a C-clip snap ring and O-ring gasket. The triple-fin discharge port design produces a powerful and unique aggressive blowoff sound along with added visual distinction.

dang..I am tempted with that bov, but I think i'll stick with the type-s. I see on ebay that there is a bov that looks EXACTLY like the type-s, but it's sold by thestreetsource.net? Anyone know if these are good, or a cheap knock-off?

My 2G came with a SSQ and I like it! For the functionallity is does hold up to like 35psi or something even though I am running like 16psi right now. It sounds cool though and is decent looking for those show car gus around here.

Stray away from the eBay knockoffs. I believe only recently did the fake Type-S start showing up. I stand clear of any automotive part on eBay that did not originally come direct from the original manufacturer.

Well, i was bidding on a type s off of ebay, but i lost out on it. Anyway, anyone ever purchase from blowoffvalves.com? They look reasonably priced. One thing i noticed, is that when you click on their greddy link on the side, and it takes you to the page of what they sell..they have a type s that's sold with a tube for the 1g dsm. It looks that instead of having to weld, it is already bolted up to a tube, that you just replace the stock black elbow with this one, and boom! done..only 187 bucks? interesting. Is this BOV loud? It sounded loud, with the sound file of the tt supra.
