The EVO8 is a nice car, but I don't see any beating the performance of the 1g/2g platforms. If there are some, it's not many.

If you are serious about buying a SRT-4 I'd try to find a use one due to the major depreciation from the moment you take a new one off of the lot. Depreciation is a fact of life when it comes to vehicles, particularily new ones. The depreciation factor obviously varies through the different makes of vehicles and the different models.

I would rather keep the DSM. but i just have never really liked neons. there is no substitute for AWD.

I test drove an 03 SRT4 with Mopar Stg 1 at Rosedale Dodge when they just came out. The car drove vrey nicely, turned a lot of heads too. I thought overall the fit and finish was not like normal chrysler/dodge products (that means it didnt feel cheap). And I personally think they look pretty nice, for a Neon = )

Now we are getting into opinion. Don't even start going bad on mother mopar, chrysler has always owned the performance market. I can back that up so feel free to argue. You want to feel cheap, spend the same cash on a fomoco or GM product. They have all had good and bad over the years, but consistantly mopar has had the performance and that is what I care the most about. The SRT-4 is a decent car, would I take it over most other current crap in the same range, definately. Would I take it over a non-ghettoed 1G, never. Cost to performance is just not even comparable. Age is not relevant if condition is similar and it can be often given the range of potential owners of said vehicles. You can make a front drive hook okay, but why waste time and money trying to make that happen when both RWD and AWD are superior for the type of driving I prefer.

The SRT-4 is decent and responds well to mods, but it's FWD and has a very low rev limiter.

Spend your money how you want, not what others want. Personally, it is very nice knowing that I know have a fairly new vehicle covered under warranty. I had my fun with old DSM's, but it was time to move on. Go test drive a SRT-4 and decide then. I considered buying one, but I did not like the interior at all and I was not comfortable in the seats. As far performance goes though, for the price its pretty good considering all the mods you can do w/o voiding the warranty.
They are nice but not all that fast compared to a modded dsm. I had no problem whooping the shit out of one from a roll. Honestly, I wish I never bought a dsm and had all the time and money I have wasted back.

If I was upgrading, it'd be to a EVO or WRX. Once you've had AWD, there's no turning back.
