I'm walking out of NAPA (osseo) this afternoon and about to get in my car when this guy pulls up and starts yelling at me. I assume hes asking for directions but instead he trying to sell me speakers. My first though is they're stolen. I decline, he starts saying that hes got over 2K worth of home theater equipment that he was supposed to deliver and they gave him to much so now he has to "unload it." Yeah, now its definitely stolen.
He keeps trying to sell this crap to me and I'm getting pissed 'cause he won't leave me alone so I just get into my car, get his license plate #, call the cops, go home, microwave a burrito.

OMG i had the same guy ask me that a while ago (still in MN) except that it was near stillwater. He used the EXACT same line.

I have had that happen here and in WA. It is a common scam. They are not always stolen, there are a lot of them that are just cheap knockoffs of high end systems that the guys are trying to sell at a profit. Still a scam.
I had that happen to myself and Eric O (I can't remember who else made that trip) when we where gasing up near Elite before heading out to a Michigan Rally 2 years back. It was some guy with some straight up bling watches though.

yea, I think those guys usually are dealing cheapo knock-offs. They are absolute garbage, though, and while a knock-off watch is kinda cool, a knock-off speaker will definitly sound like ass. Tell him you'll buy the whole load from him & to meet you @ mcdonalds in an hour (b/c you have to go to the atm). heh heh heh...

I figure if the cops ever catch up to him they can sort things out. If it is stolen now they've got someone to beat info out of. If its cheap knock offs, he can get a good scare trying to prove he owns it. Wonder how the the police deal w/situations like that if it is knock off junk. HopefullyJDM can chime in.
Right after I moved to Minenapolis (late winter/early spring) I was doing something outside, and a guy pulls up in his car and asks if I want to buy an air conditioner. I'm like "No thanks", and he says something and drives off.
I also had a guy walking around last summer trying to sell some boots. They were timberlands or something.
I know of 2 buddies that have bought speakers from the same type of deal. The speakers actually sound really good and handle quite a bit of power. For the money, they are pretty damn good.

I've got a buddy who bought them as well and they wheren't that bad. Indi, trying to sell stuff like that isn't illegal. It is no different from when I used go around hassling people in my Schwans truck. We used to sit outside the tall government housing in North Minneapolis with the radio up hustling people for food stamps on food stamp day.
The line I always heard when approched is 'I was supposed to get 6 speakers and the gave me 6 pairs!!!'.
