Could I get away with rebuilding a stock 1G 6bolt motor with out doing machine work except honing the cylinders and decking headgasket surfaces? I just want a reliable daily driver.

No, he meant one that wasn't worked on by anyone in HORT!

J/K. This is the tech section, no BS posts.

Yes, doing that will be just fine. Make sure you put in the correct sized bearings and gap the rings. Having the crank polished is a good idea too, but may not be necessary.

You probably don't have to worry about decking it either, check it, I havn't found too many that needed to be decked. The primary reason I have all them done is to make a solid reference for the boring etc. If you are just wanting to get away with a cheap rebuild, probably not required.

Main thing with doing it successfully is to take your time, double check clearances use an accurate torque wrench and do a really thorough job of cleaning. If you have any questions during the rebuild, call the shop.
