What were you running for an oil filter Mike?I didn't have access to a Mitsu filter when I changed the oil last night, so I went with the Mobil1 oil filter. I thought it would be a good choice since it was bigger to support more filter media and is supposed to filter really well. I ran them on my 2.0L all the time with no failures. Maybe it was a bad one.

My buddy blew the filter housing apart on his 2g right in front of me one time. Its a pretty crazzy thing to watch. good to hear the motors alright his wasn't so lucky after the second time it happened.

You are lucky. I blew the gasket out between the oil cooler and the piece the pressure senders in. I didn't catch it untill it started making noise. Not one piece made it throuogh alive (head, bottom, turbo).

After 2 hrs worth of degreasing my car, I took another look at it. It looks like the o-ring seal pushed it's way out of the sealing groove. I had hand tightened it really tight, but it looks like not enough. I think the pressure caused to oil filter to push away from the sealing surface which allowed the o-ring to come out of place.
Well at least I get to keep going and don't have to tear the engine down. :D

Im calling balance shaft removal as the culpret.
*stirring the pot?* :)
*stirring the pot?* :)
I doubt it, theres no pot to stir. No DSMer will ever keep his balance shaft (given the chance to remove it) because the oil pressure *might* blow off the oil filter.
