I found a nice 1G 92 tsi awd 5spd for sale that has 150k. The owner has taken very good care of it, the exterior and interior are near perfect. He has all the receipts, and he says the tranny shifts good, no grinding. It has the original turbo, and the car eats 1 qt of oil every 500 mi... Could that be a sign of a bad turbo? What I am curious to know is what should I expect to be worn out? All my DSMs had under 90k. I think it is due for a t-belt, which is scary. It had the transfer case recall done, and he paid $700 for a new ECU (probably fried caps?).

There are usually 3 issues with oil consumption and they are the turbo, valve seals, piston rings. How much is he asking for the car?? See if he'll do a compression test, pretty simple test I don't see why not...just to see where its sittin at.

If the car has bad compression, that would mean what?

probably means it needs a rebuild.

Can ya be more specific? Bad rings? Valves not sealing? Bad Headgasket?
