I have a grinding problems in some gears when shifting on my 1997 GS-T. Not sure what it is, but a lot of the times when I'm at a stop light, I would put it in Neutral then in 1st gear---3 out of 5 times it will grind the gear, same as when in Neutral then going into reverse. just wondering if anyone knows what that is, or if anyone has ever had that problem before. Thanks.

Moved to the correct forum.
Is your clutch releasing all the way? Have you checked your clutch rod adjustment? Have you bled the clutch system?

You have just explained the problem that half of all DSM owners experience. Did this problem just arrise or has it been doing it little by little for awhile now? How many miles does the tranny have on it? Did you recently change your fluid? Have you checked your fluid? How is your clutch pedal adjustment?
CRAIG

I started to notice it a about 1-2 months after I had a new ACT 2600 installed. The car has been in storage since Oct. 2004. The tranny has 130k miles on it, and I have not change any fluids besides the tanny fluid after the new clutch was put in by Elite. Im not driving the car atm but I just wanted to figure out the problem when spring time comes around and fix it up. I will check the fluids first. Thanks guys/gals.

Yeah, I think about 50 percent of DSM owners have that exact problem. Its just considered normal in the DSM world to have a grinding tranny, lol.

I wouldn't say it's normal, because it's not normal. Transmissions shouldn't grind when shifting, if it does, something is wrong. Don't let it go without trying to fix it, grinding synchros/gears is not good on a tranmission. I used to have second gear grind at times when shifting. Mitsu replaced second gear for me under warranty, still grinded at times. Then I sent it to TRE, no more grinding.
So lets just say it's common, but not normal. ;)
p.s. Get it fixed.
