1969: The "Colt Galant" is launched for the first time, powered by the 4G3 (that's not a typo) Saturn engine

1970: The "Colt Galant GTO" is given the new 4G32 DOHC Saturn Engine. The initial joint contract with Chrysler Corporation is signed, and "Mitsubishi Motors Corporation" is born.

1971: The Dodge Colt is the first Mitsubish Made North American vehicle under the new Chrysler partnership. The "Galant Coupe FTO" is launched

1973: The "Lancer" is launched. The 4G36 Motor is developed in partnership with Hyundai Manufacturing

1979: Mitsu sells Porsche AG "the silent shaft"

1981: The "Lancer EX1800 Turbo" is born. LET THE MADNESS BEGIN!!!!

1982: The Starion is born

1983: G63B is the newest Turbo Engine, with Intercooler

1985: Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Chrysler reach an agreement to terminate and cancel the basic contract on a joint venture of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation.

An agreement with Chrysler to set up a joint corporation for producing passenger cars in the United States is reached. (The company later becomes DSM.)

1986: Brings us the "Cyclone" Engine and the start of shipment of V6 Engines to Chrysler (Le Baron, Caravan, Town and Country, etc)

1987: The "Galant" (with 4G6 DOHC 4-valve engine, VCU-type full-time 4WD, active ECS 4-wheel integrated control system onboard) is launched.

1988: The production line of the "Eclipse" at DSM starts operations.

1990: The "GTO" and the "6G72 DOHC Twin Turbo" are born

1991: Mitsu forges agreement with Dutch and Swiss Volvo to conclude passenger vehicle launch plans. A Volvo?

1992: The very FIRST Lancer Evolution is born. So is MIVEC: Mitsubishi's Innovative Variable (Timing and Lift) Electronic Control.

1993: Chrysler sells of it's Mitsu Shares. The begining of the end for DSM

1994: The "FTO" as we know it is launched

1997: Issue of Illegal payoffs to corporate rackateers. Shady biznaz...

2000: HUGE recall and warranty coverup and scandal. More Shady biznaz...

Also in 2000: First plans to jointly build a car with DaimlerChrysler

AND FINALLY in 2000: Mitsubishi finally ruins the Eclipse line of cars. Thanks a load. Ass.

2002: Mitsubishi finalizes plans with DaimlerChrysler and Hyundai to jointly produce cars. You will see the begining stages of this with the 4G Eclipse/3G Stratus/Sebring/3G Tiburon

2002: Mitsubishi sells me my first "BRAND NEW" car, and a big warranty to go with it.
Kiel: 3 Mitsu: 0

2003: Mitsubishi begins production of the Lancer Evolution in North America, and launches the "Ralliart" motorsports brand of cars.

2004: Mitsubishi yet again announces that they will further ruin the Eclipse by giving it an oversized ass end, keeping it FWD, and giving it an even bigger, crappier, SOHC 3.8L V6.

that is indeed a cool find, i like the pics also, some of these old mitsus look like small muscle cars!

You bastard!! Where do you think I get some of my questions for the trivia contest at the All Mitsu Cookout. ;) hehe. Now I'll have to find a new source. ;)

I knew most of that info, but not all of it. Good stuff. The old-school Mitsus from the 70s are awesome. I'd love to have one here. But the only thing sold in the United States before 1980, that was Mitsu made, was the Dodge Colt and they were kind of ugly.

On a side note, I spoke to a guy from New York that has a 1980 Plymouth Arrow which is made my Mitsubishi. He really wants to come to the All Mitsu Cookout next year.
