I hope this isn't the wrong section.. I figured it was here or gadget tech. This is long for those with small attention spans.

Story goes as follows: Bought the car(90 tsi awd) with the flip ups up, no big deal to me at the time. Today I think.. wow that really looks gay with the lights up but no lights on. So I take the switch out and swap it with the one in my 91 parts car hoping that will work, nothing. While I was at it.. took the spring out of the fog lamp switch so those actually stay on now.

Then I get the brillant idea of switching the motors. Get the motor out and go to put it in. Surprise.. the 90's have a different plug. I knew 90's have specific parts for the year, but that was kinda ridiculous.

So I am asking for some suggestions on what to do.

Here's some cliff notes and other facts: Replaced the switch with a known working switch, replaced the fuse/relay thing out of a known working fuse box, tried to switch motors and 90's have a different plug than the 91, flip ups do go up, but not down. I manually cranked them down today for the 'lazy eye' effect, but when I hit the switch to turn them on, they went up.

It's probably something electrical between the switch and the motor. I don't want to waste my time splicing the plugs only to have it still not work.

I saw on the web somewhere when I was searching a guy took out the motors and lamps and put in HID's into the lower lense thing.. I liked that, but an expensive alternative to something that seems like it would be fairly simple.

Anyways, if you have any suggestions, send them to me on AIM: Village Torcher or reply on here or just email me. Whatever works. Thanks for reading.

which switch did you swap out? The entire headlight/blinker switch, or just that pop up/down switch?

just the up/down switch.

It's not electrical. It's the whole pop-up mechanism, it's gotten dirty and is putting too much strain on the motors to raise and lower the headlights. Take the headlights out and disconnect the motors via that little adjustable bar. Clean all pivot points with brake cleaner than use lots of WD-40 on all the pivot points and raise and lower the whole assembly by hand. I did this six years ago on my first 91, worked like a charm.
