K so my flex was completely broken in half so i went and had my mommy get me an early Xmas gift, my stock DP. After spending 2 hours heating, stripping, getting cut and banged up.. i finally got the cat bolts out. The new exhaust is sorta on. I realized when i got the old one off that i forgot to get gaskets lol. So there is 2 small tiny exhaust leaks ( hardly ne exhaust comes out). There is a "ground strap" maybe? That was on the old exhaust and there is no place to mount it to the new exhaust. What is its functionality? I figured it would hold it if a bushing support broke.. Um yea, 1st gear feels normal, 2nd gear feels normal, but 3rd gear up doesnt seem to pull much.. could just be me going from loud as hell to quiet exhaust. Also, im getting a LOT of (exhaust colored) exhaust coming out of the muffler.. Not just because its cold i dont think. Any ideas?

Exhaust gases are colorless unless you introduce something into it like oil or coolant.

Is this a used stock DP I hope? I hope you didn't waste your money on a new stock DP. The "smoke" you are seeing is just water vapor. You didn't see it before because it was coming out underneath your car from the big exhaust leak.

Yea I really hope you didnt buy a new stock DP... people have used ones off their cars for dirt cheap around here. And you coulda just bought my 2.5" one for prolly less than you paid for a new stock one?

No, it's just you going from a free flowing exhaust back to the stock restrictive one. And if you are still running the original stock cat it probably so plugged up it's worthless, even more restriction.

I've heard the "ground strap" helps ground the O2 sensor for accurate readings...but all my friends that upgrade exhaust leave it disconnected with no ill effects. That may only be the case on 2g with a rear O2, I don't know.

I believe that "ground strap" that you guys talk about is just a brace to your block so your exhuast isnt just hanging on your turbine housing. It should fit on a stock exhuast as it is designed for it... It wont fit around bigger diameter DP's though.

134 bux for turbo to cat ( full DP). All if the downpipes i saw Didnt have good flex pipe. that was my previous issue. and knowing that its a bitch to get the bolts off exhuast, i didnt really want to hastle with all that another time just so i can save some money. I didnt pay for it so i dont really care lol. But yes it was new. The strap bolts onto the metal housing around the stock exhaust, but i didnt put that back on so i guess i dont have a choice to put the strap back on or not. Also, it would cost at least 25 bux to get a new flange for FWD from AWD to the cat.. so after buying your DP peter, ida spent the same amount of money if not more.

I dont care about this car. Im leaving it stock. Im almost through the bumps n curves of my first swap. I need a block off plate for the idle ( bad sensor), caliper for the right rear ( anyone got a working one for a 90 feb??), and i need to decide why im losing so much oil. the exhaust really doesnt have a color, greyish maybe? But im losing like 1 quart every 200-300 miles. I have a small minor leak on the oil line but thats nothing close to what im losing ( unless more comes out when driving then idle or off). Ideas?

I was always wondering what that strap was for. Is it any important on a 1g?

If it's a new stock downpipe, then you're obviously going to see power differences... it's going back through all those shitty bends.
