What type of clutch?

I am going to be getting a clutch probably very soon. I was wondering if I should wait until I can shell out the cash for something like the Exedy Twin Disc or if a 2600lb ACT is good enough. I am not going to make my car a drag car (But I will drag it often for the fun of it). I am more interested in Auto-X and/or track racing. Please give me pro's and cons of each (Aside from the price difference :) ) Thanks guys!

I would go with a different style clutch than a 2600 if you are interested in auto-x and/or road racing just so you can snap shifts off quicker (lighter pedal preasure). I would probably look towards a Clutch Masters stage 3 (if they make it for the EVO). RPS stuff is also really nice, but again I am unsure if they make one for the EVO yet.

I run a twin-disc in my GSX, but it isn't an Exedy. My twin-disc has near stock pedal pressure, holds more torque than a single disc, I can slip it without having to worry as much about burning up the disc and it isn't off/on like a single disc puck clutch.

My friend runs the CM Stage 3 in his Evo. The pedal pressure feels damn near stock. It has some sort of carbon kevlar segmented disc. It is grabby, yet still streetable. I'd really recomend it. If you want, just PM me and I can give you his email addy or AIM name and you can talk to him.

From what Mike has told me, the Southbend clutch line is an amazing value. I would recommend looking into that.

Honestly I don't care about pedal pressure at all. I am looking into a well known brand that won't give me grief down the road that will hold the power fine. The stock EVO clutches blow. I just need something that will hold around 400hp without a problem and last a reasonable amount of time. I would rather get a cheaper price than a lighter pedal pressure. Thanks guys!

AWDs love to kill clutches. I can probably get you a decent price on an Exedy, if you decide to go that route. The twin-discs are quite expensive though.

Just so you know, I'm pretty sure the Southbend DXD is cheaper than the 2600.

Most of the clutches in the evos have a light pedal pressure. Something about the design of the PP or sumthin, like a pull design or something I'm not sure of the specifics. Again my friend knows a lot more about this crap cuz he's an Evo guy. I just know because I pick up on some of his conversations and read the boards sometimes. But his ClutchMasters stg. 3 prolly has a good 15,000+ miles on it, still going strong. Real grabby, but still is streetable. Again if you want to talk with him, lemme know and I'll give ya his email and AIM name. And I've also heard great things about Southbend. It's what I'm going to be personally running.

I've done 2 ACT clutches in EVOs now, 2900 lbs I believe.One beats the shit out of his, and is more than happy with it.The other is Mr Raced on this board, I haven't talked to him in a while, but I pretty sure he's happy with his too.ACTs are cheap compared to the other options, pedal pressure is decent and engagement is smooth.From what I've read over on EvolutionM, it seems people are having problems with the Exedy twin plates.Either way, I guess it comes down to the torque you're making/plan on making.
