People pull out the honeycombs in attempt to lean out the A/F a little. The honeycombs straighten out the airflow, when removed, it harder for the MAF to meter airflow so it lets a little unmetered air through. In my opinion, this mod is stupid, and won't do you much good(especially on a NT 1.8)

The GM thing, is a adapter called the MAF translator, which allows you to run a GM MAF, which are usually larger and less restrictive.Again this won't do you much good either, and it costs $199 plus the price of a GM MAF ($25-$125)

So in not so many words, your fucked with the 1.8L as far as performance goes. Getting some better flowing exhaust and a cold air intake would be the only fairly cheaper things you could do to make it faster.

But hell Alan thinks they are fast, he told me today that he beat a Geo on the freeway earlier today.

CRAIG

The geo was parked ;)

If you are dead set on making any power with the 1.8, you should look into porting and cams as well. There are plenty of mods you can do, they all cost more than the engine is going to be worth and likely you will never be happy with it but it is your right to build it.

I wouldn't even bother, drive the 1.8 until your money situation allows you to buy a turbo DSM.

A 2.0 Turbo swap and you would still be FWD.
I say keep the 1.8 as a winter beater and find a GSX, or you could always not worry about making power and mod it for straight show, which is what N/T owners I've seen tend to do.

It will probably cost more to acquire all the parts needed to do a 2.0 Turbo swap then to just buy a turbo DSM.
