im about to change the timing belt on my 2g. ive done about 5 1g t-belts but never a 2g. im just checking to see if there is any differances betweent the two. i noticed the 2g tensioner part number is different from the 1g. this will also be my first time changing a water pump. is there any tricks i should know about that part?

Yes, you need the tool for it. You have to apply counterclockwise force to the pully while you torque it. www.vfaq.com has all the details.

Honestly you want a tool to make your life a LOT easier.. or you could make one...do some more research and you can make it youself... or take the car to one of the few sponsoring shops and have them do the timing belt :p

heres a nother dumb question. can i use the battery tie down bolt from a 2g to take the tensioner off. i had one off a 1g but i lost it. i checked and it looks like the one on the car is a j hook style and not a bolt.

Watch the o-ring seal on the water pump to coolant pipe connection, I had a real fun time getting that back together, you have to be carful with the crappy paper gasket too. The timing belt specfic tools are a must and make the job a lot easier.

yeah i think im going to make the tool. ive always done without one for all the 1gs ive done. it would take a long time though. tighten the tensioner down to where i think it should be. then leave it for 20min and come back and check the gap on the tensioner. would take well over an hour to get it right.
