Do you have to remove the valve seals, cams, rockers, etc? What type of solvent should I use? Is there a safe and easy way to get the detonation marks off the valves?

Honestly take it to a machine shop, or somebody with an amazing parts washer. When my head came back from the shop it was clean and realy purdy.

Yea you can either just clean it like Matt did or take it in to get it hot tanked. Thats what I did when i had mine rebuilt, it was shiny afterward.

If you are taking it apart to clean it, take the plugs out of the end of the oil galleys so you can make sure all the junk that gets in there is gone. If you don't have a compressor, you shouldn't do it, you need to be able to blow it all out when you are finished.
