I have a 1992 GSX and I think I'll be needing a new alternator soon. I was wondering if anyone knows of any higher output alternators that are out there for a 1G. I know there is the Canadian 90amp, which is also a Galant VR-4 alternator (pretty sure about that), but those are pricey. I also read that Mitsubishi alternators spin differently than most aftermarket ones, which could lead to cooling issues. Thanks.

Here (http://www.4alterstart.com/pages/store/skudetail.nhtml?profile=highoutputalternators&uid=10634&returnURL=http%3A//www.4alterstart.com/highoutputalternators) is one that I have heard of others using with good luck. Otherwise the shop that I work at used to outsource alternator rebuilding to a company in Forest Lake, I can't remember the name but it was actually a common auto parts store. They rebuilt one for us that tested out at 210 amps at 4500rpm, but it was a bigger alternator so probably not that high for a DSM. Great turnaround too, they had it done in a day. If you are interested in that I would just start cold calling the auto parts stores up there and ask if they anyone locally that does that.
In either case, MAKE SURE YOU UPGRADE YOUR WIRE AND FUSE/CIRCUIT BREAK APPROPRIATELY!
Alright, I've posted this before.. A&B Electric or AB Electric in Hopkins is the place to go. I talked to a bunch of audio places and they all send their alts to A&B. I went there and for 1Gs and 2Gs they sell you a VR4/canadian/whatever you want to call it re-wound alt for i think $70 .. he said they are rated at 90amp but he would put it on the bench tester for me and show that they all output around 110amp, not 90. 5 year guarantee I think, around $70, perfect fit, great power, local shop, easy choice. He also said for my 2G if i really wanted to go nuts, there is another 150amp alternator that they stock that will fit with a couple washers for spacing, but I wasn't interested so he didn't elaborate on what it was originally for .. might have mentioned it was for some GM car though, don't recall exactly.
