Whatever article mentioned that is wrong.
Sure the motor and tranny were never available in a neon, but its still a neon.
The motor and tranny are the SAME ones that they put in the GT cruisers..... now is not a PT cruiser?? Same with the SRT-10 Ram and SRT-10 Viper.... both are still a Ram and Viper. The 4 in SRT-4 stands for cylinders. Sure the car itself might not have Neon badges, but if u need parts, u need neon parts, if you get a Factory Service Manaul for the car, you get a NEON SRT-4 Factory service manual.
In the end the SRT-4 is still a neon, it always has and always will. When I was down at the Belvidere plant in June of 02.. months before they were even being manufactured, one of the PVO dudes had a red one, he was displaying it for all at the "Neon 2002 gathering" This was before they even had the "cut outs" or "snouts" in the front bumper for cooling the radiator. I have a few pics, and a vid of it, he even raced a new WS6 infront of the plant with 4 people in the SRT..... took him up to 100.... but this SRT was a "MANUFACTURER" vehicle...*wink, wink*
The original Neon SRT concept was a supercharged 2.0 SOHC motor, they just made it better... reasons right out of PVOs mouth for going the new motor and tranny route "the 2.4 was the biggest motor we could fit, and we didnt need 6 gears to get the job done" The stock Neon transmission cant handle the power of the 2.4 turbo.... although the tranny will bolt right up.
Ok im sorry, that got a bit long, yes the SRT-4 is a neon, and yes my gf has the white ACR with a cage that works at Checker.
Just introducing myself remember?
Chris :toast:
dang boy, sounds like u wanted to get in a throw down over that. I was just saying i read in an article that dodge wanted to get their neon srt-4 to be noticed more as a potential race car, and not the typical car that people picture on the billboard with "HI" written above it. And they said their very first step was removing any NEON badges on the car, so people didn't associate it as the "HI" car as much. Never said they were no longer called neons, just took off any badging that said neon. I personally think they are pretty cool cars, just i've grown to hate FWD on a car that i wanna modify, its the absolute worst drivetrain platform to work with when dealing with performance or racing. Now im sure you're going to argue about the whole FWD thing too, cuz its good from a roll right :jammin:
