Hey guys, I'm planning on buying a few new mods on my car. I'm for sure getting the turbo-timer, but I'm still having second thoughts about the S-AFC. Does anyone have one and is it worth the money? I'm also getting the TurboXS RFL BOV if I get the S-AFC, so I can vent to Atmosphere. Some people said its a good upgrade, others said that its a waste of money. I'm waiting for my next paycheck to buy some new parts.

First, you don't /need/ a turbo timer, second, you don't need an AFC or any sort of fuel control unless you have other mods, how about a boost controller? An AFC will not allow you to vent to atmosphere without losing metered air, only a blow-thru setup will allow you to vent and not lose performance (before anyone gets started on venting, it affects everyones car differently.

It would also help if you list what you already have and what your goals are so someone can point you in the right direction.

Lets put it this way. You should get an SAFC before you get a turbo timer. An SAFC is a fuel controller used for tuning. It is not a upgrade you need to get right away. Start off with a k & n at checker and make your way up the list I showed you. If you are looking for that bov, I know a kid who may be willing to sell you his for pretty cheap. PM me if interested.

Turbo XS BOVs are crap and the AFC doesn't let you vent to atmosphere on a DSM.

Oh yeah...my mods are:
K&N Filter
2.5" Apex N1 exhaust
2.25" catback piping (If curious why...ask me, its kind of dumb)
2.5" Punishment Racing Downpipe (pressbent... :headache:)
2.5" Punishment Racing Testpipe
Blitz BOV (currently off)
Autometer Phantom Boost Gauge
ACT 2100 Clutch
(Oh yeah, I forgot about these two)
TurboXS Standard Boost Controller (currently on and spikes at 15lbs and drops to about 13-14lbs)
TurboXS HPBC (going to be put on sometime, its a little weird to configure)

And I think thats it. What do you guys think my next mod should be? I'm trying to make my way down into the high 13's (atleast 13.99...haha) by the end of September. I was thinking about getting 3" all the way, but its kinda $$$...so I'll probably get that next Spring.

I thought the Turbo XS BOV was pretty good, I've never heard anything bad about them yet.

I thought I'd be better to get the Turbo-Timer before the S-AFC (if I get it anymore).

A turbo timer doesn't do anything for performance. Get your self a MBC, raise the boost to 15 PSI and you should run 13's. Other than a boost controller, I would get a fuel pump. You shouldn't have a problem with 13's.

The problem with the Turbo XS bovs are in the set screws. They leak air very easily. The screws are often lost also. I saw one that leaked at 3 psi.

You can 12s with the mods you have plus a boost controller on race gas. 13s should be no problem.

I know the Turbo-Timer does nothing for performance, but I'm sick of waiting in the car for 30+ seconds after every drive. On the other hand, if I get an alarm...I'll have to wait for the Turbo-Timer to shut off before I can arm the alarm. Win/Lose situation for me.

Fuel Pump...I almost forgot about that one. That was suppose to one of my main upgrades, but I've lost track of it..haha.

You don't need to wait 30 seconds everytime after you drive the car. You only need to wait if you just got done boosting the car hard. If you just drove normally for a few blocks then you can shut it off right away. Letting the car idle, if you were just driving normally will only make the temps higher than if you just shut it off.
