Instaling Exhaust Manifold Studs

My hayes manual is of no help regarding the Installation of exhaust manifold studs. I'm wondering how far your supposed to put the studs in and is is possible to use to much RTV on the middle stud? would anti-seez be a good idea on the studs? I plan on applying it to the ends that the nuts go on. Comments/tips would be helpful, I'm starting tomorrow afternoon. Thanks guys.

Well, before you thread them in, you will want to retap the holes. I apply anti sieze and thread them all the way in by hand. Then I use anti sieze on the nut side and install lock washers and regular nuts.

I have never used RTV on the center stud and I haven't had a leakage problem...

Just curious why you would use anti-sieze on the end going into the head? You really don't want the entire stud to come out everytime you remove the manifold right? That's my thinking but not saying my thinkin is right. That's why I'm asking. Also if you need Austin, you can use my tap if you don't have one. The kit is over at my dad's.

But if you ever have one break off, you'll be glad you put anti-seize on them.

i put antisieze on all of mine, and do not put it on the end of the stud but on the side of it ;)
How important is it that they are studs? lets say for example the two 10M on'es are hard to find in longer lenghth. since i added the spacer i haven't been using those two studs.. i haven't had any leakage yet but who knows. it might come down the road..

Exactly why I do. 2 have broken off before and are a PITA to fix. I would rather them come out than get stuck.

Enes, you are fine with bolts but using a stud is better.
