The main problem is the gears shredding apart where they mesh from power. Shifting is usually a clutch problem or worn syncro problem with DSMs.

Think thats why face plating helps out a ton. Bigger teath so allows more room to find the gear easier. There for less shredding.

The part of the gear/syncro/hub that does the shifting is not the part that holds the power though. Gears usually shred apart after the shift is done and not from the shift.
The pointy house shaped part of the gear would be replaced by face plating, not the part that is destroyed in this picture of a typical broken DSM gear.

Does face plating help besides with high rpm shifting and making it worse to drive on the street?
It just has less things to engage but if its put together wrong it won't shift for shit anyways.

Got the 6 bolt i had bought a bit ago ready to get to gosh. Bearings inside were a little rough. Also found it had been apart before it had arp main studs with arp rod bolts.
