The idea of a larger team isn't a bad one for resources but something like VIR is just out of the scope for us this year. Matt's getting married and I have a new born so we started going into this with the "pace ourselves" vision a bit and that also seemed to line up with JET as well. This made the RA event in Oct a good one and then hopefully have a few more lined up for 2015.

Maybe it would make sense to have have the resources pooled, but I want to make sure everyone would be on the same page as for exceptions when you have one team more experienced and at a different stage than another.

I'm starting to think having a few extra drivers is better than not having enough. There are always people who can't make races or would sit out to save money. Having actual crew is nice at races as well, we haven't had that in a while.

I don't think the experience thing would be a big concern for us, we're not arrogant and we don't have any freakishly talented drivers. If you have a couple HPDE's under you're belt you're probably within spitting distance of our skill level :D We plan on going to a few driving events to shake the car down and can get a new person seat time.

I'm not really even looking for experienced drivers. The most important things for me now are having enough $$$ to race, and having time, ability, and DSM knowledge to help work on the car. Engineering types a plus.

Not too surprisingly, I can find a ton of people who want to rent seats and have always wanted to drive an AWD DSM in a wheel to wheel race. Just can't find people who can join the team permanently.

The goal with our car is to make it easy enough to drive that my grandma could do it. User friendly and reliable, as opposed to our last car (often would try to kill you).

For the guys that are starting out as a new team, I encourage you to at least spend time or volunteer at a chumpcar event if you can. It will help you plan and prepare for your first race. Also renting seat time with an existing team is not a bad option, for most people is reaffirms whether the right choice was made to starting a team in the first place. Most people get hooked after renting a seat, cant say you were not warned! Ha!

I will be looking to help a team out this spring/summer just as crew if needed for something local to get a good feel, other than that just looking forward to being behind the wheel.

You can come and volunteer to help work the WRL race at BIR May 31, I'll be doing tech. Or you could find a team to crew for.
