I knew going in that there would be some issues and I am convinced it is a German thing. I have worked with 2 companies that had engineering based in Germany and it was impossible to try and speak reason to them, they knew it all. It if was failing in the field, then it was user error.
I knew going in there were a few issues with the cars, but it is nothing major and a few have had redesigns. The N55 is much better than the N54 for reliability, which is why I went with that. The water pump takes an hour to change out, so not a big deal in the future. Easier than the timing belt in a dsm. It didn't make my car undriveable to the point of stranding me, but would have delayed me to allow it to cool a little and the water pump to start working again. It was under warranty, so I just let them take it away.
I owned a BMW before, so I am used to these issues. I still wouldn't trade it for anything else around this price. The ride and power are exactly what I want. Although I am looking at a stage 1 turbo. Looks like about 40 - 50whp more on the top end. Dyno results will be out soon. That should get me to my 11 sec daily driver goal.
