Plastic...see pics.
I saw the pics, was kind of hoping that it was black metal lol. I assumed it was plastic but was still hoping.
Well that sucks, I can't wait to see people break these ones too after they get their recall done.

I'm honestly thinking they'll be fine. You rarely hear of anything but the 2008's breaking, and the 2014 version is the strongest one they've made yet. If properly engineered, plastic can be just as strong as metal while being lighter in weight and costing less to manufacture. I know people bitch about the plastic valve covers, but I think there are a few valid reasons for it such as heat retention and lower weight at the high point of the engine; the downsides are of course very apparent when you run a non-shielded tubular exhaust manifold though.

Plastic doesn't bother me honestly, I am all for it as long as it works.
I just question that this is fixed properly but hopefully it is now.

Great news all the way around :)
We have a several of the new CMC's in stock. So people may call service (651-483-9106) and start scheduling appointments for replacement at any time!
Please make sure that when you call you do two things: make sure that we hold the part for you (as we only have so many at the moment), and check on availability of service loaners. We only have so many and can't always pay for enterprise cars for you. Time estimate is 5-6 hours.
Also good news for those of you who have already replaced yours: You may be eligible for reimbursement!!! Details for that will be in the letter that you should be receiving some time this month.

Anyone heard of someone getting reimbursed? I talked to mitsubishi and they told me that I have to have my cmc replaced, even though it's a 9 cmc. They would then review it and could possibly partially reimburse me. Honestly I don't want it replaced with the plastic one, also the closest mitsu dealer to me is at least an hour and a half away. Not really a big deal to get any money out of it, but damnit haha.

I don't know about the reimbursement part yet. Supposedly the details are in the letter you are going to receive. I have not gotten mine yet.
I'm in the same boat. I have a IX CMC in my X too.

I would say if you already have a IX CMC then just leave well enough alone.
