I disagree about it being built for TX2k14 only then part it out. That might be the initial goal, but I think it'd be fun to also take it to other events such as PG, Shootout, Cookout, etc.

As for your bullets, yup pretty much agree with all that. One thing is I'm a thrifty mofo so I'd be also looking to not overspend, and spend money wisely. For example for the turbo if someone prefers a $2k FP 80lb/min turbo, I'd much prefer a BW S366 for under $800.

1Gb would be nice, but really price and availability would dictate that I think. If a 1Ga, or a Colt hatchback popped up for the right price in the right condition, I would rock that.

I was just thinking build it for TX2k14, then part it out when finished. If we did it by a parts donation, then once finished people take their parts back. If parts break, well.. that's racing.

As stated, the hardest thing about something like this is the people management.

We've all been around these cars for a long time, and everyone has a lot of passion as to what their ultimate setup would be. For this to work, I think you would have to micro focus the intent of the vehicle to one specific function.... one ultimate goal. Broadening the scope allows for too many options and possibilities for debate.

That being said, let's try this... If a car was constructed for the sole purpose of attending TX2014 with the intent of getting rowdy with the big boys *with a realistic budget* what would you build -and why?

[This would be an idea of my setup]

FWD 1Gb with toenail to retain drag coefficient
Automatic Transmission
Enough turbo to supply 70-80 lbs/min... T4, straight side exit exhaust
Enough wheel and tire to hook at 60 MPH
Low enough cylinder pressure to keep axles, ring lands, head gaskets and studs happy
Engine screwed together to survive 9500 RPM
Airflow parts to be efficient at this RPM
Enough brake pad to brake boost and slow down from high speed
Curb weight no more than 2150lbs dry

I would go next year, the vette would have been perfect for this haha, even though it would be on the slow side of the spectrum.

Wish I still lived up there to go in on the group drag car, sounds a lot like the chumpcar teams except drag racing.

What happens after 2k14 is certainly open for conversation. I just want to make sure people are focused enough on a specific goal can collectively accomplish that, before mentally moving on with scope.

(My mind unfortunately works in absolutes, and what would make for an awesome HWY monster, is less optimal for other formats of motor sports)

The BW would be the turbo of choice for numerous reasons... 366 looks nice... not sure if the 400 series would fit without an exotic manifold.

I've got to get Andrew7g's Summit hatch out of my shed before I can take on any more projects.

If this doesn't actually materialize and people still want a site sponsered car for 2k14 I would probably be willing to put my car up for 5 days of being used for the site. It's basically everything you guys are talking about except its a manual and awd. Just a thought lol

Yeah, I have my own project as well I'm working on. I think it could be fun though with the right group of smart guys with similar mindset/goals in mind.

If that shell is what it appears to be, that's a helluva clean shell for $300 :)

Finding the right group of people will be the hard part lol. If you let too many people in on it then everyone who throws in $50 will think they have equal ownership

If the shell is clean and cheap enough is awd really that much of a deal breaker?? I mean from the sounds of it based on the goals for the car even if it is a frumroll machine it sounds like awd wouldn't hurt
