With Joes thread and toms reaction, it got me thinking that maybe soemthing more should be said without adding to that already messy recipe.

So this is my theory on the whole thing, feel free to add yours to it after, I am curious how people feel.

Anytime I see a car that is slapped together it makes me cringe. It doesn't matter if it is a performance mod or something done in hopes of making it look better. What is the big problem with taking your time and making right. In fact why not take it a bit farther and make it the best it can be for what you have available. If it was worth doing, it is worth doing right. That doesn't mean I am against home depot mods or anything else for that matter. I just would like to see some pride taken in peoples work. I even try to make weight reduction look good, it's all in the details.

As far as performance goes, I am all about going fast, but if a car runs tens and was slapped together, I have little respect for it. On the flip side, if a car runs 14's but is very well done and the work was put in by the owner, I can appreciate it.

I agree completely. I dont care what the mod is, as long as it looks like some thought and prep. went into it then its all good. i like themes too,if allthe mods go to gether that makes it that much better.

I agree for the most part. I realize that sometimes stuff can't be done perfect and that shortcuts need to be taken once in a while since the majority of us here are trying to work on a budget. With that said, there is no excuse for some of the stuff I see. I won't go in to details since it is not important. I know I don't have the best looking 1G, but I always keep the exterior, interior, and engine bay fairly clean and have tried to keep everything fairly "clean" looking without going too crazy in any one area.

I like to see cars where the mods done look like somthing would be factory equiped that way. Where everything lines up good and clean. My opinion.

it's all about doing it right, i can't stand tackyness or mods done without care/effort, it makes me cringe too. about my comment on the whole ricer thing, of course i do appreciate a car that is done up elegantly with a nice fitting body kit and tasteful overall appearance, but i just can't stand the whole blue unpainted bumper, glued on body kits. you know what i mean..

My mom was making fun of a 90-91 Civic hatch with an unpainted bodykit yesterday, it was quite funny.

I dunno.. but this is just me. People who "mod" their cars, usually mod them according to their style/personality whether it be the way they dress or whatever else they spend their money on. Usually if you see this really nicely modd'd and unique car on the outside and inside, you assume the guy/girl dresses very clean cut and nice and has their own classy nice style. If you see a half ass done car and it is beat to shit; I'd expect to see a "thug" drivin that car like he was a pimp and have a "try to be like everyone else so I can be cool" personality. I don't really know where I was going with this but I think you guys/girls all know what I'm talking about, I hope...

I think that was off topic, and I don't know where that came from but anyhow, if a car is beat to shit on the outside and inside and is fast...sure it's a sleeper, but it will probably fall apart soon or will blow up. If you're gonna do something, at least get it to the point where it can be somethign you can enjoy and not have to worry about... wait I guess we all own dsms, shouldn't say that... but if it's all "show" as some consider their cars, and no go, I do not have respect for it still because maybe I'm just one to expect more from something, but if it's a "show" car, it better be pretty damn extreme to considered a show car and that costs money and money = work and work = dedication and dedication = you. None of this typical off the shelf-shit that enhances your tailights or exterior look/bodykits. Custom = show car. If it's a show AND go car... you better have the REAL mods to back it up and a kickass exterior/engine bay w/ a million -an fittings and bling galore whether it be polish or anodizing, or something clean and nice. Again, I lost my train of thought, but I willl keep editing when I remember what I was talking about. So far, the only real show and go cars I've seen are typically MKIV Supras.

I think that everybody has there own choice to do somthing with there cars, its there own car.. let them do what they want to do, its there choice not yours, as TalonTSiDude once said "I could care-less about your opinion on things. I do what I do and buy what I buy becuase it is what I find enjoyable, not to please you. "

That's true that you do it to please yourself, but seriously... some people seriously shouldn't be modding cars with the types of styles they have. There is good unique, then there's fugly ass unique. But then again that's all based on opinion and opinions differ with everyone, but I'm sure you get what I'm saying. EX. Getting a bodykit because you like the style.. sure.... then getting the knockoff because it is $4500 cheaper and just doesnt fit as well but in reality it's deformed... :fworld:

i agree, im not the one to say if a car is good looking or bad looking since my car isnt in perfect shape, but from a spectator view, i have seen many not-so-good looking cars lately (at uni) and it dose get annoying,
