View Full Version : Low oil pressure at idle, once hot.

Just threw in a new/used shortblock into my car and once the coolant temps are up to normal, it seems that my oil psi at idle is 0.
This is with idle about 850rpms in drive.
As soon as i hit the gas pedal it goes up to 10-15+ and goes up from there. I'm running 15w-40 rotella for now, but I might change to something better and thinner after reading the oil temp/oil pressure thread made by Jeffgst.
Thanks

I had an A/T Talon that did this on 5W-30 but was fine with 10W-30.

My ex's 2g Tsi awd auto did this too. Parked it before I figured it out and never touched it. Good luck

It scares me, esp. since i just spun a bearing.

I know it really doesn't answer your question, but if you bumped your idle up to 1k, does it have pressure then?

I've tried that already, and it doesn't 0 out, but the FSM states 11psi at idle.

Try Slick 50.

If it were me I'd bump the idle up a little bit just so pressure isn't at zero until you can figure it out.
You know if the oil pressure relief valve was ported? Maybe ported too much?

Forward facing oil pressure relief set up differently/sticking?
