ok so i have been recieving many emails lately from supporters of this petition, looks like it was a good idea, i might meet the goal.

Hi Tom--
I just wanted to say I think your petition regarding the eradication of the MN requirement of a front license plate is great. I found the petition link posted on the forums at northstarbmw.org, where I'm a member. I've passed the link around to many of my contacts and they have passed it along also. Looks like the petition is growing steady.
Thanks for iniating this call to action. I also wanted to make sure/ask that you send this to our state legislators. Do you have a plan regarding this (when to submit, to whom, goal number of signatures before you submit, etc.)? I don't think this will happen to you, but I know a lot of petitions are forgotten and no action is taken. That would be shame in this case.
Take care and happy motoring,
Proud owner of a 2001 BMW 330xi with no front plate

Dear Tom,
Thank you for creating this petition.
I was #194 to sign and its near 800 signatures on here.
How many do we need to make a difference and what congressman or senator or whatever would i talk to regarding
"car stereotyping". I have been pulled over and ticketed and warned many times for front plate and other equipment violations that I feel are harassments for having a "cool car", while corvettes and mercedes and "older" people are getting away with breaking the same laws and im being punished cause im younger with a "sport compact car".
Which person is this petition going to and what is the minimum number of people we need to be heard?
I am all for getting rid of this law and i want to help out and spread the word for others to sign.
Jeff

Well to spread the news, im going to wait until AT THE VERY LEAST 2000 signitures, and yes i plan to send this to as many congressmen and women and people of legislation.
Tom
I don't mind my plate but i signed for you guys anyways. good luck doubt it will do any good but it can't hurt to try.
Jesus H you guys.
Explain to me the benefits of not having a front plate, and how this will be good for someone other than yourself, and I'll march right up to the capital steps naked, and petition this issue myself.
WHO THE FUCK CARES?? You don't wanna pay a ticket, take 5 minutes and PUT YOUR GOD DAMN FRONT PLATE BACK ON!!! What's the big fuckin deal??? Seriously.
I took mine off, and I've gotten two tickets for it. I accept that.
If you don't like burning your mouth when you eat, don't eat hot food.
If you don't like getting no front plate tickets, use a front plate.
My 2 cents

I have to agree with JDM. Aside from the obvious and already discussed issues, the front plate serves a HUGE roll in helping law enforcement catch speeders. The laser guns are aimed at the license plate because it reflects so well. Without a front plate law enforcement would lose the ability to laser oncoming cars. It's there for a reason, like it or not.

whats with you two being so fucking crabby all the time.
Not all of you were there one night when a fellow dsmer (dont remember his name.) hit howies car the kid had a front liscense plate, well sure enough it left two nice marks in his bumper, which (if you deny this you are stupid and i will tell you straight to your face) could have avoided any damage to his car if the kid would have taken his off. Point number one made and proven.
Point two, when the fuck have you ever seen a police officer pull over a car from the front. never. its totally useless. fuck the whole police officers point at the liscense plate to get a better reading BS because there are soo many factors that can deny that, i.e there is a cover over the plate, the plate is really dirty, the plate is angled wrong. Lets see someone with a radar gun hit a car traveling at 70+ MPH hit a small plate with a laser. not likely.
My big point about this whole thing is that having a front plate is completly pointless, it costs the state more money then needed in makeing them, more materials are wasted. why not save the money used in production to fund more important things other then objects that give police another dumb reason to pull someone over. has anyone ever seen a commercial saying "keep the plate on or the police are going to ticket you" NO you will never see that commercial because of the fact that the government would be laughed at.
Im not going to sit here and deny that it doesnt make my car look better and i have my own reasons for trying to stop this stupid law, but there are more then one reason for throwing this one out. and if we dont see eye to eye on this, tell me some (more then one) good reasons that we should display the front liscense plate.

Tom, I'm not crabby. You know me. When have you ever seen me in a bad mood? For that comment alone I am going to prove you wrong.

No, I never heard about that or saw it. Was it completely that guy's fault? Maybe, maybe not... The fact is Howie is lucky that's all the damage he received. Howie could have just as easily been left with a bent body panel or a torn off bumper. How would a front license plate have made any difference there?

A few years ago when I lived in Eagan my friend was up visiting from Rochester. We were going out to eat and were doing the 35mph speed limit down the road. We passed a cop, and no sooner we passed him the cop turned around and pulled us over. Why? Expired tabs.

Go to http://www.laserlid.com/ and watch their videos. It shows a laser gun in operation from the operator point of view. It doesn't look that hard if you ask me.

Do you have proof of this? No. None of us do. It's just another lame excuse of yours to get rid of something that isn't going away.

Them wasting money on such a commercial is like you wasting everyone's time by trying to get the state to change their laws.

I have stated my points with valid reasoning. Go ahead and try to disprove me with your bullshit reasoning. You're my friend and all, but if you can't get over something as little as this, maybe it's time for you to move to California since Minnesota is such a hard place to live in. And if you're moving to California, why start such a petition for a state that you have no love for?
Expired tab tickets make up a large amount of the funding for roads and construction, so they don't have to tax everyone, just the ones who know that their car should have a front plate, but just in case they bump into someone, it doesn't cause damage. :bounce:
Tom, we're not crabby, I just don't see a valid argument. The only argument you guys have is that "it's stupid", and might cause damage in a small fender-bender. Are ya gonna take the corners off of your doors cause they cause damage when you bump your door against someone else's car? Negative Ghost Writter. Pattern is full.
Tom, you know it's nothing personal. It's just that you already started a thread, so I am obligated as the Post Whore Pimp to whore the shit outta this one. Especially cause you have no good arguments ;)
THIS IS MUCH THE SAME OF WHAT YOU WILL GET IF YOU START ANOTHER NO FRONT PLATE THREAD.
Happy typing
I'm closing this one. If you want to continue, go to the original thread that was started.
