Ok guys I'll be looking at a used journal bearing FP Red in a couple days. It was built from a new CHRA core and has roughly 4 to 6k miles on it. Without tearing it apart, is there anything to look for to make sure its in great working order before I buy it?? Thanks!!

Shaft play and chipped/bent fins. Even then I would never buy a used turbo.. I bought a 35r from someone and it had ZERO shaft play and the wheel was in PERFECT shape. When I had Primo take it apart to ceramic coat the exhaust side they found that the exhaust side fins were all torn up and you couldn't even tell with the cover on.. Long story short and $880 later I ended up with a new turbo center section.

Yeah its a tough call, personally I wouldnt either but the guy who is selling this turbo is a pretty nice guy and if anything ends up being wrong with it, I'd have a hard time believing he wouldnt give you some money back

I'm sure Josh would make it right if it happened to not work out. Didn't Buschur check it out when he took it off?

Thanks guys. I'm not sure if Buschur looked at it or not, I could ask Josh. As far as getting him to sign something, he's across the seas right now, I'm working with his dad on it. I was going to have DB look at it, but without tearing it apart, not sure what they can really tell. Josh seems like a trustworthy guy though and if it only has 4k miles on it and was built from a new core, couldn't imagine a problem.
Too bad i think DB took a look a long weekend for memorial day, haven't been able to get ahold of them in the last couple days :(
