View Full Version : idle changes when pressing clutch

this is in my 1g.

at idle the car has a little shake in it. originally i thought it was the lack of balance shafts, 272 cam, and poly motor mounts. but when i push in the clutch the shaking goes away and the car idles almost perfectly smooth. as soon as i let off the clutch the car is back to shaking.

its a lot like engauging the mower blades on a riding lawn mower when you get that bark and it runs rougher.

im guessing this is either something wrong with the clutch or my first signs of crankwalk. :scared::KANE:

Complete guess, but could a loose or mis-torqued flywheel or Pressure Plate maybe cause something like that?

Loose flywheel was my first thought also.

throwing in an update as to what is happening

started her up today. idle was rough. pressed in the clutch and idle went to normal. i very slowly let off the clutch and the idle changed just slightly but still idled smooth.

pressed the clutch in again followed by letting out the clutch quickly and ended up with horrible shaking.

anything i can check out without dropping the trans?

Nope, totally sounds like loose flywheel bolts. I fought them bad when I put my twin disk in.

thought i would update this since i lost motivation and just got to checking the play in the crank.

pretty sure ive got crankwalk. came up with .012 for shaft endplay. if i remember correctly is supposed to be between .006 and .008? been looking for the spec online for 10 minutes and havnt found it yet

Did you measure off the crank or end pully? If end pully, remove and re-measure, there is some give on the rubber on the stock dampener.

i went off the both the pully and the flywheel. i moved the crank from the flywheel side as to rule out play from the pully.
