View Full Version : Extra gauge to add to pod? Mildly modded '98 GST

What I Have: '98 Eclipse GST, 6-bolt, Stock boost, T25, 90 OFH.
What I do: Daily Drive, Spirited Freeway
My Issue: I just bought a 2-hole gauge pod and boost is my only aftermarket gauge
My Question:Which gauge should I run in the spare spot and why?
So, I'm not gonna run more than stock boost. I have a boost gauge hooked up. All my dash gauges are functional and never fluctuate outrageously (could be a good or bad sign).
I believe the 90 OFH has an extra port for oil pressure/temp. Would an oil temp gauge be worth the $50 investment or would I be better off putting a different gauge in there.
My 2nd choice was a AEM wideband, however I can't justify $160 on a gauge that just looks pretty.
I'm tempted as a joke, to just run a clock lol

oil psi, wideband, oil temp, water temp.
That would be my preference.

Do you plan on keeping the car now? If your going to leave it stock and not mod it I would do a oil pressure gauge. or you could buy a narrow band a/r gauge and have a nice light show all the time. Haha jk. I would go with a oil pressure gauge since its a dsm.

GTP: The best offer I got for it was $3,500 cash and I couldn't let it go for that, so for now i'm gonna keep it as my damn reliable daily driver.
ok, so with an aftermarket oil pressure gauge, should I disconnect the old sending unit, replace it with a new one, and that way the gauge on my dash won't show a reading, however the aftermarket gauge will.

Ouch. Yeah I would keep it for that price. you can keep the stock sending unit hooked up. You running oil feed from the head to the turbo? If so theres a pulg you can take out of your ofh and connect your oil pressure gauge. Theres two spots on the ofh. One to run a oil feed line that has clean oil. Then theres another hole that people use to run a oil pressure gauge. Just google it. Dont yoy have a vike now?

Oil feed is coming from the OFH, I do currently have a sensor that works for the oil pressure, that is coming from the housing also. Im almost positive there is another hole to just unscrew a set screw from and screw in the 2nd sensor. I do have a wideband bung that is blocked for now, but without running boost or fuel mods, I don't see a need for it.
Yea, I wanted to trade the eclipse for a different bike, but I just have the monster as of now.

Wideband hands down. It will be the most important gauge you use. It can help diagnose boost leaks and other problems as well. Have you checked to see if your stock ECU is flashable? These 2 together would greatly help your car out.

Buy the wideband anyways lol. Throw it in whatever you got.
