So I bought myself a 96 VR4, and it just started to knock. I am wondering if anyone knows of a good shop who won't bankrupt me rebuilding the engine, or if anyone knows where I can get a good shortblock.

Buy a stock mitsubishi shortblock and throw it in.
Common causes for spun bearings:
-dented oil pan
-dented oil pan
-dented oil pan
-lack of oil changes
-lack of oil

Engine is stout and will hold 500awhp all day.

^^ What he said. Check your pan and see if there are any dents or spots that are "Pushed In". I know of a guy who had a bare block i was going to pick up from but never got around to it. Many of the 3/s guys know someone who knows someone with a spare motor for that reason.

blown tubos and detonation will also cause issues at some point. check/make sure its not on the 2nd/3rd set of tubos with out the oil pan being pulled and cleaned and make sure there is not an AFC in the car to cause crazy high igtion values(when setup and tuned wrong).

If I do just put a shortblock in it, I will have to have the heads hot tanked, and I will have to buy a new oil cooler, correct? What is the best way to get the metal shavings out of the turbos?
