Decided to make a new project thread since my old thread was a bit cluttered and confusing to follow.

My brother first picked up this VR-4 back in 2007 from a guy on MNSC, at which point it was completely stock. He ended up throwing on a 20G, having the stock block refreshed, and having suspension work done on it at Elite Performance in 2008. He finished college and ended up not having space, and not wanting to see it sold to someone else, he sold it to me to keep it in the family. I bought it at age 16 in the fall of my junior year.

A few pictures of the changes it went through before I got my hands on it.

More rims... See the recurring pattern? My brother and his rims...

And then the day that I picked up the car from him.

First shot of the engine bay in my ownership.

After fixing a bunch of minor problems, I headed off to MAPerformance for a tune, and made 324WHP on 18PSI. Had a blast driving it all junior year, and in the summer of junior year I made 388WHP on 25PSI. Drove it the first few months of senior year and the clutch started slipping. I opted to pull it out and do the clutch.

This is what I ended up with after a hard day of wrenching. For some reason I figured it might just be easier to pull the motor with the transmission while I was at it and clean the bay. Big mistake.

From there, I somehow decided to build the car, and got hoodup on a motor and HX40 setup. I decided to wire tuck (a little but, not like a Honda...) and clean up the car.

Fast forward 9 months, and this is what I ended up with. Taken today on 8/19.

Finished up the car, brought it home last night. No leaks, needs a tune badly. School starts for me on Monday, so I'm off to school (in state) soon. Going to park it behind my brother's other VR-4 until I'm ready to tune it.

Still need to schedule a tune with Shane, and would like to make it to the Mitsu Cookout, but I guess we'll have to see.

Looking for 500-550WHP.

Nice I've always loved the VR-4's why the low compression? I mean since you guys are so lucky up there to have E85 damn near everywhere.

Time for an update. The day after I posted the thread, my car skipped timing while moving it in the driveway. Thankfully it was there and not on the road. Didn't have time to go to the cookout, or work on it due to college. Came home today from college for a few hours and worked on it with my brother. Pulled the timing cover and head and found the valves had bent. Going to reuse the L19's get a OEM HG, and get new valves and a timing belt.

Pictures and explanations below.

http://i749.photobucket.com/albums/xx137/SCMI_Photography/photo1-4.jpg

Went home today and pulled my cylinder head with Dan. Just about every valve is bent.

http://i749.photobucket.com/albums/xx137/SCMI_Photography/photo2-4.jpg

Pistons came out of it alright, no real harm done. A little nick on the tops, but those will get smoothed out.

http://i749.photobucket.com/albums/xx137/SCMI_Photography/photo3-3.jpg

The cause of the incident. Timing belt separated at the chords. I had leaking cam seals, and it soaked the belt in oil. Chords degraded and it just went, ironically days after I installed the new cam seals.

Sucks right now, but I'm going to try to get some things straightened out, then try to get it running again and tuned by the time winter swings around.

Shitty man. :(

At least you found out what caused it I guess. Doesn't make it suck any less, but at least you know.
