I got this via email from a co-worker. Seems like it's getting around as I saw it posted on tuners. Maybe it'll help, maybe it won't, but it's not hard to plan around this.

IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES DID NOT
PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME,
THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.
AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF
OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL
COMPANIES. THEREFORE, WEDNESDAY, MAY 19TH HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT UP THEIR BEHIND " DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE THAT DAY.
THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS
MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.
WAITING ON THIS ADMINISTRATION TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS
NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN
PRICES THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?
REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT
AT THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING
COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON
EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING MATERIALS,
MEDICAL SUPPLIES ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO!
WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY,
WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.
SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE
YOU KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE MAY 19TH A DAY THAT THE
CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES SAY "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"

haha. oh man, these things are funny. the thing is, the percentage of people who will see this and actually heed the warning is like 1% of the entire population of the people who actually get it.

there's basically no way to get everyone in the country to do this. and think about it, is a gas station really going to be hurting if they don't sell gas for ONE day? probably not. but give it a shot. i haven't bought gas for almost two months.

What if some people NEED gas on that day.... who's gonna give it to them...?

Sorry, this is an old hoax that floats around every time gas gets expensive. The oil companies are not affected by a one-day boycott since they sell to the gas stations in bulk, and that isn't replenished each day.

Let the boobs on Tooners all do this to no avail. :goodluck:

actually that would affect the gas prices if you would think about the chain reaction. People dont buy gas>gas stations around the country have an exxess amount and dont need to buy it from the oil companies>Oil companies dont sell it and therefore lose the money for the oil that was not purchased therefor there is an excess supply of gasoline. Its simple Supply and Demand, if the demand is low the supply is high and the price drops because of the excess amount of product. Take a look at any product. Ciggerettes, there are billions of smokers out there that production cant keep up with the demand so therefor raising prices because it is a hot item. think about this people and dont buy it on that day, its really not asking a lot.

OK, so if we all don't buy gas on the 19th, then more people will just fill up on either the 18th or the 20th in effect raising the prices on either of those 2 days. One day's trend will not affect gas prices one bit. Especially if sales only drop by .1% (getting 1 in 1000 people to participate in this is a generous estimate). Think about it this way, say we all boycott frozen pizzas tomorrow; do you think Cub will cut pizza prices in half? Without a doubt not! Maybe if they sold no pizzas for a few weeks straight they would go on sale. I paid $24 to fill my beater's tank today. I don't much like it, but why bother bitching about it? Nothing will change just because people are mad. If you really want gas prices to drop how is this for an idea: Park the SUV's and trucks! Until then, get acustomed to paying these prices for gas...its won't be coming down anytime soon.

It's wont matter, cause the next day there will be 2 times as much gas bought. 1 day = no effect. Now a week, that coudl do some damage.

Gas has so many middle-men involved it would take months for the effect to get back to the crude oil suppliers; they are the ones who set the base the true market price comes from.
