So I finally got to drop the trans, since I thought the flywheel bolts backed out again. Come to find out theres as tight as can be. Whats weird though, I can shake the flywheel and the crank moves. I know its possible that any crank can walk, but is this the case here? Or are my bearings just shot! I still have to drop the pan and will get to that tomorrow. Just wanted to get some opinions.

The car had a really bad vibration on acceleration and deceleration.

If you can wiggle the crank front to back, your thrust bearing is shot. Sounds like crankwalk to me. How did you set the crank?

It's defenitly more side to side than in and out. I can't move it now that the flywheels off, but when it was on it moved a good 1/4in or so.

I didn't I bought the car with the motor in it. It was done prolly 6 years/30,000 miles ago when the motor was built. I'm not an engine builder so I guess I don't know what to do from here. Except obviously start gathering parts for the build.

If you guys don't know, I bought this car from Jim (talonfiero). Funny thing is I just told him last weekend that it was gonna be down for a year, to get all freshened up after maps event. To bad it's time came a few weeks to early!

Side to side? Sounds like some impressive wear. Get pics up when you tear that sucker down. I wonder if whoever built it plastigauged it at all. Crank might be out of round. Mains may be out of round if it wasn't line honed with ARPs.

Pulling out tonight. I'll be updating the project thread for now.

Side to side? Even if the bearings were missing entirely it wouldn't move 1/4". Best to pull it apart and assess the damage. It made it 30k miles so it doesn't sound like anything to do with assembly, probably just living a hard life or possibly run low on oil recently. If you find the block is shot, shoot me a PM, I might have a cost-effective solution for you.

Yeah, it was built good! 30k on a build isn't bad at all. When I say a 1/4 inch that's how much the flywheel moved while it was bolted to the crank. I can barely move it with the flywheel off.

I'll prolly be contacting you through pm either way. Lol

Dropped the pan, nothing in the oil at all! Got pumped after looking everything over and all looked good. Then I shook the flywhell and found the culprit! There is a crack in the crank, on the flywheel side of the #4 connecting rod. So I dont think Ill need a total rebuild.

Unreal! Lucky it didn't grenade man! Carnage pics whenever you get it apart.

there really was no carnage. Just gonna have a crank come out in two peices! :)

Sidebar-I heard ur car put down some nice power. Good for you man, keep it up!
